Making Tax Digital for Income Tax — now live

Your quarterly tax updates, sorted from your phone.

From April 2026, sole traders and landlords over £50,000 must send HMRC four updates a year. Filing Sorted turns each one into a few taps on your iPhone.

Independent software. Not HMRC. Not tax advice.

One tax return became four updates a year.

Making Tax Digital replaces the once-a-year Self Assessment with quarterly updates sent to HMRC through software — not spreadsheets, not paper.

4× a yearDue 7 Aug, 7 Nov, 7 Feb and 7 May, plus a final declaration by 31 January.
£50k from 2026Then £30k from April 2027 and £20k from April 2028, on gross income before expenses.
Software onlyHMRC-compatible software is required. Manual spreadsheets and paper records don't comply.

How it works

Four steps, then it's just a habit.

No accountant needed for the simple stuff. You stay in control — nothing goes to HMRC until you confirm it.

STEP 01

Connect to HMRC

Sign in once on HMRC's own website. Filing Sorted reads your deadlines and never sees your password.

STEP 02

Add as you go

Type your income and expenses, or snap a receipt and let the app fill in the details for you.

STEP 03

File in a tap

Each quarter, check your totals and send them to HMRC. You review and confirm before anything is sent.

STEP 04

Know what you owe

Ask HMRC to calculate your position at any time, so there's no nasty surprise in January.

Your data

Your information stays on your phone.

Filing Sorted handles National Insurance numbers and your income, so it's built to keep that data yours — held on your device, not gathered on our servers.

On your device

Your National Insurance number and records live in your iPhone's secure storage, protected by your passcode and Face ID.

We're just the pipe

Your figures pass through our UK server to reach HMRC — they aren't stored there.

Delete anytime

One tap removes everything the app holds on your device. It's your data to keep or clear.

Honest by design

Filing Sorted is independent software. It isn't HMRC, and nothing it shows is tax advice.
